About

I have been making wine for the last few years out of pretty much whatever I can get my hands on – blackberries, elderflowers, plums, apples, strawberries, the list goes on.

In the autumn of 2009 I attended a winemaking course at Plumpton College which focussed purely on making wine from grapes.  On completion of the course I decided I wanted to buy a huge plot of land on a nice sunny south-facing slope and start my own vineyard.  English wine in the past has not had a very good reputation, but things are changing.  There are some extremely good wines coming out of this country now, particularly some of the sparkling wines which are winning awards at international competitions.

After coming back to reality, and realising my dream of endless rows of vines growing in my vineyard producing thousands of a bottles a year was perhaps a little over-ambitious, I thought that a more realistic proposal was to simply grow a few vines in my own back garden.

So that is what I am going to do.  My mission is to produce my own urban vineyard, create a micro-winery and produce good quality wine that I can enjoy drinking and sharing with friends.

I hope you enjoy my website.

  1. Would you like some grapes? We have a bumper crop! We have enjoyed making wine in the past but don’t feel up to it any more. We have also got demijohns and other winemaking equipment that you can have. Just let us know

    1. Hi Toni, that sounds great! When are your grapes normally ready for picking? And do you know what variety they are? My wife is due to give birth to our second baby any day now so it may be a bit tricky to fit in but I’m certainly interested, and if I could manage to get enough grapes to make a small batch of wine (maybe a demijohn’s worth) that would be fantastic.

Please could you reply to my email address – benwright1974@yahoo.co.uk

      Thanks,

    1. You are very welcome to have a slurp but you’ll have to wait a while. There may possibly be some from last year’s harvest ready by Christmas.
